AFM-2 · VOICE LAUNDERING
When you paste the AI email draft and think 'that's not my voice'
DESKRUNE
For when you come back.
Here's what it looks like.
The pattern: you ask Claude to clean up a draft. It comes back smoother — the punctuation is even, the rhythm is uniform, the personality is gone. You ship it anyway because you're tired. A week later your partner says, 'this email didn't sound like you.'
The cost isn't the time.
Voice is how the people who love us recognize us in writing. When AI smooths it out, it doesn't just edit the sentence — it edits the signal that you're the one who wrote it. Trust takes a small hit. Repeated over weeks, it adds up.
Three ways you'll know you're in it.
Hook by hook. If you recognize even one of these in the last week, this is the failure mode that's costing you.
- 01You edit the AI output more than your original notes
- 02You hesitate before sending, feeling something is off
- 03Feedback references your tone, not your content
The protocol that breaks the loop.
When you catch yourself pasting notes into an AI: Stop. Write the one sentence that must survive unchanged—your core message, your emotional truth. Bold it at the top of your draft. Now change your prompt from 'make this professional' to 'help me structure these thoughts around this core sentence without changing its voice.' You've just anchored the output to your actual communication style instead of generic professionalism. The AI now builds around your voice instead of replacing it.
You're not the only one in the room.
Every AFM hits four people. The ADHD adult living it. The partner watching it. The coach explaining it. The boss pricing it. Every kit speaks to all four — because the reader is sometimes one of the people watching.
When you send the AI-polished email and your colleague asks if someone else wrote it.
When your partner receives a text that feels like it came from a customer service bot.
When your client shows you an AI-drafted message that has removed all their recognizable personality.
When your team member's communications become suddenly, suspiciously perfect.
Kits that solve this directly.
Log a moment when this hit you.
Most ADHD-AI loops feel random until you can see them next to each other. Log a moment in the form below — intensity, time, AI tool, brief context. After three or more entries, you'll see your own pattern in the recap. Stays in your browser. Nothing is sent to us.
When did Voice Laundering last happen?
You don't have to be precise. The point is to capture enough that the pattern becomes visible. Future-you reading this in three weeks will have something concrete to work with.
