Why this happens
Post-meeting rumination has an ADHD flavor: working memory is finally free, the meeting tape gets re-played, and you notice every awkward beat. The actual content is rarely as bad as the replay makes it feel. Naming what your brain is adding ("they think I'm not handling things") creates enough distance to put the tape down.
The example we'll start with
Just got out of a 1:1 with my manager. I think I rambled at one point and then said something that sounded defensive. They didn't react obviously. Now I can't stop replaying the moment. I'm worried they think I'm not handling things well.
