A specific question, answered specifically
What to do when you cant remember what week it is ADHD?
When you can't remember what week it is with ADHD, It helps to use a planner or calendar that's designed to be simple and easy to use, even on days when my brain isn't cooperating. We're under-built for systems that assume daily showups, so it's essential to find tools that work with our brains, not against them. I've learned to rely on visual cues and routines to stay on track.
Why most ADHD systems fail
Many planners and organizational systems are designed with neurotypical brains in mind, which can make them difficult for ADHD adults to use. For example, a planner that requires daily entries can be overwhelming and may lead to abandonment when we inevitably miss a day or two. A planner that requires you to write down every single task and appointment quickly becomes too much to keep up with.
A better approach is to use a system that allows for flexibility and doesn't penalize us for missing a day or two. This might include using a planner with a weekly spread, rather than daily pages, or incorporating digital tools that can send reminders and notifications.
Using routines to stay on track
Establishing routines can be incredibly helpful for ADHD adults who struggle to keep track of time. For instance, I've developed a morning routine that includes checking my calendar and to-do list, which helps me get a sense of what needs to be done that day and what's coming up in the week. This routine has become automatic, so even on days when my brain is foggy, I can still follow it and stay on track.
Finding the right tools for the job
It's essential to experiment and find the tools that work best for our individual brains and needs. A variety of planners and digital tools exist, and what works for one person may not work for another. If you're struggling to remember what week it is, I recommend checking out the ADHD Executive Function Kit, which includes a range of tools and strategies designed specifically for ADHD adults.
